Anguillara Sabazia Anguillara Sabazia derives its name from a famous roman villa called “Villa Angularia”. owned by Rutilia Polatrae. The villa is situated on a promontory jutting into the lake at a perfect right angle. The entrance to the old city is throuth a portal from the XVI° century welcoming visitors and drawing them into the narrow medieval roads, rising up to the College of the Assunta, a church from the 700’s. This church is the highest point of the village with a splendid view of the lake. Another interesting site is the Neolithic city, which was found below the lake, noted for being the first European construction of its kind. The findings from this site have been dated from 5,500 years BC and are now preserved in the Pigorini Museum in Rome. Another important site is the wall of Saint Stefano, in that it is a major testimony of the Roman epoch in the Anguillara Sabazia community. Another jewel of the area is the volcanic Lake Martignano, set among Monti Sabatini, which is part of the Regional Natural park system together with the volcanic Lake of Bracciano.
Bracciano
The name most likely comes from the fact that there were a large number of hydraulic constructions created in that ancient epoch, the name referring to Bracci-braccia (translated to arms lifted) of the Roman aqueducts. Looking down from the 300-meter tufa rock hill is the famous Orsini-Odescalchi castle. On the outskirts of Bracciano we find the town Pisciarelli, which accommodate beautiful walks either on horseback, or biking but especially on foot, from where you can admire the Boccalupo arches; Castel Giuliano lies between woods, cascades, and is a wonderful paradise for excursions and last but not least, Vicarello, a small village known for its cross of monuments in their natural surroundings of the Roman waters “Apollinari” ( closed to the public for restoration).

Trevignano
Romano Trevignano is a charming little town situated on the north shore of Lake Bracciano. The name “Trevignano” most likely comes from the toponym "Trebonianum" about which we do not know much. In an antique stamp of Innocenzo III, dating 1211, this place was named “Trevonianus”. The town is noted for its beautiful shoreline walk, running the entire length of the town, starting from the centre, all the way to the outskirts of the neighbouring town of Vicarello. The walk begins in the shade of platen and birch trees of the village, along the shoreline of majestic lake trees, proceeding up the hill towards the noted fortress ruins of a castle constructed in the XV century by the Orsini family. This castle was armed with a surrounding, double wall, that extended all the way to the shoreline of the lake, therefore defending the town, as well as providing the Orsinis with a spectacular panorama of the lake. The church of Maria Assunta in the centre of the village dates from the renaissance period, and contains the famous affreschi of Pellegrino of Modena, a student of Raffaello. The Civic Museum has an important collection of prehistoric, Etruscan, Roman, and medieval relics. From the fortress ruins of Monte Rocca Romana, which is the highest of the Sabatini foothills, and including the surrounding foothills around Trevignano, you can wander on footpaths, on horse back or mountain- bike thru the immense chestnut groves down towards the olive groves and vineyards of the lake’s shore. It is indeed an enchanting atmosphere!
ETRUSCAN MUSEUM OF TREVIGNANO
The museum of Trevignano is located in the civic centre square in the centre of town, with the lake as a back drop and framed by the antique village and Orsini castle above. The museum contains an exposition of archaeological findings pertaining to the Etruscan period. Over 350 exemplary pieces come from surrounding Etruscan necropolis not three km. from the towns’ habitation. Among the most precious findings, is a representation of a rare urn handle, made from colored glass.
